Rebel lost their semifinal match against Rockaway yesterday, 19-38. We've come a long way from the club that went 1-7 in 2021. We've got a long way to keep going. Well, I have good and bad news. Bad news first: @villagelions had to forfeit the match, citing a lack of numbers due to a Covid outbreak amongst their team. The good news: we had a really cool lineup set, and for the first time ever, I was going to do a full roster announcement. If you've been with us for a while, you know that we often have traveled light to league matches and not known how the lineup would look until right before kickoff (including week 1 this year). Thanks to some good recruitment and improved team communications, we've been able to build a deep and exciting roster that we know in advance. A roster that includes cool things like full front row subs and Power Wing Iggy is an exciting thing for us, so we should celebrate all the work we've done recruiting these studs. We might host something at the pitch anyway, to get together and have fun. I'll post when I know. Cheers

HV Bowties 2023 CanAms in review: We won our first match of the day against @southbuffalorugby 15-3. After getting punched in the mouth pretty early, we regrouped and established strong forward play, allowing our elusive backs to find gaps and break off some impressive runs. We ended the game in the 44th minute by toppling over the goalpost on our way into the try zone (didn’t count towards the score but still cool). After some weather delay, our tournament run was halted by a strong @ucrfc1974 mudturtles side. Bad discipline on our part and good discipline on theirs made it difficult to overcome. The rugby was over for us as a club, but our old guys (many of whom started for us Saturday) won the championship with the CT Grey in the 35+ bracket. Our “young” bucks took the Sunday off to party to our hearts content, which we probably still would have done even if we had Sunday games to play. And lastly, being in the Adirondaks allowed for some great post rugging relaxation. Thanks to @mountaineersrfc for hosting this amazing tournament. We’ll see ya next year for the 50th Rugby Christmas! 🍻

Hudson Valley got blessed with a great day of rugby down in Atlantic City! We combined with our friends, both old and new, from @novarugby @potomacexilesrugby and our fellow tournament competitors. The Rebels fall in a hard fought friendly. Thank you to New Haven for being great guests and exposing some of our bad habits. The Rebels scored three tries today: by Corporal, Hokie, and Pips. Our forward of the match went to Tommy, who put in a lot of work in a forward heavy game. As a whole our tight 5 played a really physical and tough game. Meet our eboard: President Ray. Ray is a Hudson Valley native and grew up in Kerhonkson. He first started playing rugby when he attended SUNY New Paltz 12 years ago and originally started as a prop and a hooker. Later in his college playing career he transitioned into playing scrum half which he still does today on Valley. Ray is extremely versatile playing all positions besides full back. He currently resides in Beacon as he continues to play with Valley.

Meet our eboard: Captain Pip Pip started playing rugby back in college up in the Adirondacks. Originally playing for the Saranac Lake Mountaineers, Pip moved down to the Hudson Valley and has been playing with our rugby club for the past 13 years. While he is keen at playing multiple positions, you can find Pip playing either scrum half or flanker on our team.

This past August some of the men of Hudson Valley Rugby gave back to their community and collected trash on Highway 9D. The cleanup was a success and the men celebrated with a team hike right after. Well done boys! #hudsonvalleyrugby #playrugby

The team had another great, rugby-filled day down at Morris this past Saturday! A big thank you to @morriswomensrugby for being an awesome host. It has been very exciting to see our teams skills improving with each game, especially from our newer players. A huge shout-out to our bitches of the pitch this weekend, Cheyene and Abigail! @chynet came in at the half with great intensity and left so much heart on the field both offensively and defensively. She made strong tackles, had a great launch on defense and made some great offensive carries down the pitch. Cheyene was a key player in setting us up for our try of the day. As one of our newer members, Abigail was a strong communicator on both offense and defense and had great awareness on the field, always hustling to get into the correct position. We are continuously impressed by Abigail's positive attitude on the field, regardless of what the day has brought the team, and the motivation it brings our players throughout the game. For some of them, it was their first rugby match ever. It was awesome to see all of the hard work our players, new and veteran, put out on the field during this game. Another awesome weekend of rugby with HV down at Danbury 7s. We have lots to be proud of with this one. The day started a little tough but once we warmed up, our players were ready for the challenge. Lots of progress was made throughout the day, from strong tackles to clever plays, and lots of heart left on the field. This weekend the Rebels combined with the Fairfield Lady Yankees to play against the combined team of the Village Lions, White plains and New York rugby, and what an exciting match it was! For our first 15's match of the season we played hard and held our own in the first half. We were overcome in the second half, playing against some very talented players. They are a versatile player with experience in positions like fly half, inside center, wing, and even some time in second row. They are a true leader who has a special talent for knowing how to read the field. Benton is this year's social chair and not only worked to plan a legendary formal for HVRC, but continues to make sure we're all having a good time on and off the field.
